Four Studies
Just the other day I was listening to Rebecca Crowell's podcast "The Messy Studio" about "When Travel Ends". It was about returning home after an art residency. Although I wasn't on a residency, I felt it also was true with my returning from my art workshop this past April. She mentioned putting up on the walls the recent work. The differences, shifting gears. Dealing with the mixed emotions. Getting back to the your home environment, the time lapse that one may need in continue.
The workshop was quite intense, painting for about 6 hours a day, not much time to absorb the actual work in progress, working with goals and intentions. I felt a vacuum when returning home, and it was difficult to start again. I had to take a pause. I tried to continue the series that I worked on, but with little success. Couldn't get back into the same mindset. Decided to continue the Sea San and Salt series that was started before I left.
These studies are a continuation of a piece that is what a call a fast start. I divided a 20x20" substrate with folds and worked them together. Cut them up to work separately, and again joining them together.
Here is where they began

Thanks for sharing the process. Always interesting to see. Love them, Carol. :)

I love seeing these stages....and reading about your transition between full immersion and home. I have gone through that a few times, and it is quite unsettling. I want to take that focus I had when away and creating and slide it right into my normal, every day! (Lola)
